In July 2015, the Australian Road and Maritime Services installed road traffic signs using E Ink in Sydney, Australia. The installed e-paper traffic signs represent the first use of E Ink in traffic signage. (accessed in November 2017)

Transport for London trialed E Ink displays at bus stops which offered timetables, route maps and real-time travel information to better update travel information. The information fed to the screens is syndicated from TfL's open data feeds, which means it is the same information that appears on the web, in SMS notifications and in mobile apps (accessed in November 2017)

Define the specifications for the data integration between the panels and the data repository where the “real-time” info are stored.

Applications using E Ink enables smart designs for digital signage, electronic shelf labels, wearables and architecture. Applications includes traffic signage and infopanels for infoservices provision in Public Transport.

E Ink (electronic ink) is a paper-like display technology, characterized by high visibility and contrast, a wide viewing angle and low power requirements.

E-link is currently available commercially in grayscale and color and is commonly used in mobile devices such as e-readers, and, to a lesser extent, digital signage, mobile phones, smart watches, electronic shelf labels and architecture panels. E Ink is processed into a film for integration into electronic displays and has enabled novel applications in phones, watches, magazines, wearables and e-readers.

Advantages of E Ink include low power usage, flexibility, durability and ruggedness and better readability under direct sunlight. Low-power, high-resolution screens will allow it to reduce energy consumption and the related costs, as they are powered by a solar panel and require power only when content is changing or being updated. The lower weight of the screens than those typically used is also said to make them cheaper to install.

The applications in Public Transport is still at prototype level ut they are increasing in the last 2-3 years.
